HDD Downloads

Several years ago I read that "someday" video RSS would be the way people consume video content, rather than via pre-scheduled programming on cable and over-the-air channels. Then it seemed so futuristic. But now with the recent release of Apple TV, combined with iTunes content, we are pretty much there.

If you haven't yet gone out and dropped $300 on an Apple TV box, you can test how this works by downloading Washington Post video clips into your iTunes software. The clips are in hi-def and are very good quality. On a hi-def monitor, the video looks as good as hi-def cable. It is worth checking out just to see how good HDD downloads can be.

With more content like this, Apple TV will certainly give hi-def cable a run for its money. And the day when you can design your own TV station will be here, if it isn't already.
