Watching the Playground

Jeff Jarvis notes that since Viacom pulled its content from YouTube, volume on that site has risen 14% (in about a week). Jarvis quips:

"...the big guys better be concerned that taking their marbles and going home only leaves more space on the playground for the rest of us."

I think that is true.

I also think that Paul Shen, President of TVU networks, is on the mark. Criticized as the "Napster of Video" by tech pundits, TVU networks is a peer to peer video streaming service that extends television to the the computer desktop. Shen thinks his technology will follow a similar development model to that of downloads and ultimately benefit video content vendors. As someone who only sees television when it is available on line, I can't disagree.
