Back from Iraq

The guy on the right just called me from Kuwait. He is coming home.

It's been eleven months since I watched him march off the parade ground at Fort Stewart and onto a bus that would take him to Iraq. It has been a long year for him, his wife, his baby boy, and all of us who know him.

Throughout his tour, he kept a journal that we read enthusiastically when it arrived each month. We read about the real war, the one that is fought by real people for real reasons. We are encouraging him to publish it. It is good and I think he will.

In any case, it is good to have him home. It is good to have him whole. Welcome home.
